Please read the following information very carefully. It contains information that is necessary to best prepare you for your upcoming test.
Four days prior to your procedure:
q If you are taking aspirin, aspirin containing products, anti inflammatory medications or blood thinners such as Coumadin or Plavix, you should discuss with your doctor whether or not you should stop these medications for four days prior to your procedure. If your specific medical condition allows, it is safest if performed off these medications.
q If you cannot stop these medications for the four days prior to your test, please contact our office and discuss with a triage nurse.
q If you are on Insulin, we ask that you hold your morning dose the day of your procedure. If you take insulin more than once daily, contact your primary care physician for further instructions regarding your insulin dose.
q Pick up your bottle of Colyte from your pharmacy. This should have been called in to the pharmacy by our office at the time you made your appointment.
Day prior to your procedure:
q For the entire day prior to your procedure, you should be on a clear liquid diet. Drink at least 8 ounces of clear liquids every hour during the waking part of your day. Clear liquids include anything that you can see through including; beef and chicken bouillon, apple juice, white grape juice, soda, Jell-O or Popsicles (green or yellow only), and coffee. Avoid any liquid that is red, orange or purple in color.
q Early in the morning, empty Colyte powder in the gallon container and add lukewarm drinking water to the fill line on the container. Shake well to ensure the ingredients are dissolved. Chill in the refrigerator.
q 5:00 p.m.- Have a clear liquid supper.
q 6:00 p.m.- Begin drinking the Colyte solution. Drink one 8-ounce glass of the solution every 10 minutes until you have consumed the contents in the gallon container. It will take about one hour for you to begin having results. You will feel quite full, but soon will begin to feel more comfortable. If nausea or vomiting occur, stop for 30 minutes, then resume drinking the Colyte. If you are unable to complete the Colyte, please call our office or the GI doctor on call.
q If you have been instructed to take the Biscodyl tablets, take the four Biscodyl tablets when you have completed the Colyte solution.
q Continue to drink 8 ounces of clear liquids hourly until midnight.
