q Make arrangements for a driver that can drive you home after your procedure.
q If you are being seen at one of our Endoscopy Centers, your driver will need to check in with you and be prepared to stay until you are ready for discharge.
We will need to see your insurance card and one additional form of ID when you check in for your procedure.
Please read the following information very carefully. It contains information that is necessary to best prepare you for your upcoming test.
Four days prior to your procedure:
q If you are taking aspirin, aspirin containing products, anti inflammatory medications or blood thinners such as Coumadin or Plavix, you should discuss with your doctor whether or not you should stop these medications for four days prior to your procedure. If your specific medical condition allows, it is safest if performed off these medications. Tylenol products may be used for pain during this time.
q If you cannot stop these medications for the four days prior to your test, please contact our office and discuss with a triage nurse.
q If you are on Insulin, we ask that you hold your morning dose the day of your procedure. If you take insulin more than once daily, contact your primary care physician for further instructions regarding your insulin dose.
q Stop taking iron pills, Metamucil, Perdiem, Citrucel and any other bulk laxative.
q Purchase one 64 ounce bottle of Gatorade ice (clear) OR one 64 ounce bottle of the Lemon-Lime Gatorade and 4 Dulcolax tablets (over the counter at a pharmacy)
q Purchase a bottle of Miralax 238 grams at your drug store. This is now available over the counter at your pharmacy.
Day prior to your procedure:
q Eat a light breakfast (avoid meats, gravy, doughnuts). The rest of the day will consist of clear liquids. Drink at least 8 ounces (1 cup) every hour during the waking part of your day. Clear liquids include anything that you can see through including; beef, chicken, vegetable broth or bouillon, apple juice, white grape juice, white cranberry juice, soda (colas or clear, diet or regular), Jell-O or Popsicles (green, yellow or orange only), and coffee or tea. Sweetners are ok. Creamer is not. Avoid any liquid that is red purple in color. You may also drink Boost Breeze supplements.
q 4:00 p.m. Take all four Dulcolax tablets by mouth.
q Continue to drink 8 ounces of clear liquids hourly.
q 6:00 Mix the entire container of Miralax with the Gaterade. Begin drinking the solution, making sure you have completed all of the mixture within 3 hours.
q Continue to drink 8 ounces of clear liquids hourly until midnight.
Day of your procedure:
q You should have nothing to eat or drink ____ hours prior to your procedure.
If you take heart/blood pressure medicine, please take it the day of your procedure and hold the rest of your home medicines until after the procedure.
