The Role of the Advanced Practice Nurse/Nurse Practitioner

An Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a registered nurse (RN) that has advanced education and clinical training in a health care specialty area as a Nurse Practitioner.  CIG's APN has a master's degree in nursing and is nationally certified in her specialty area.  CIG's APN is recognized as an expert health care provider and may facilitate entry into our health care system.  In addition, our APN demonstrates leadership as a consultant, educator, administrator and researcher.

CIG's APN provides high quality care using a unique approach to health care that emphasizes patient education and preventative health.  The NP collaborates with with our physicians and other health care professionals as needed.  This results in a high level of care and patient satisfaction.

Services Provided by CIG's Advanced Practice Nurse

	Obtains detailed medical histories and performs physical examinations
	Diagnoses, treats and monitors acute and chronic gastroenterology disorders
	Prescribes medications, orders and interprets lab tests, x-rays and other treatments
	Consults and collaborates with CIG physicians and other health care professionals
	Promotes positive health behaviors and self-care skills through education and counseling
